After an Evening Rain
by
Diana Henderson
Midnight scented grass
Bathed in spring rain
Dim echoes of a street lamp
Casting its quiet glow upon the trees
As stillness falls upon our peaceful country lane
And this little corner of the world
Falls asleep beneath a moonless sky
Hushed under the umbrella of low-hanging clouds
That merge into treetops wrapped in soft mist
We say "good night" with one last gentle sigh.
